On 28 and 29 September 2023, the first ENLIGHT Cancer Days were organised at the University of Bordeaux, on the initiative of the Bordeaux Institute of Oncology. This congress gathered researchers from 5 Universities of ENLIGHT. The scientists from the University of Galway, Ghent, Göttingen and the Basque Country discussed the current academic development in cancer research. These discussions set up a path for possible future collaborative research work among the ENLIGHT’s partners.
Within CRIG (‘Cancer Research Institute Ghent’), “Recently, we established collaboration with the ‘Bordeaux Institute of Oncology’ (BRIC) at Bordeaux University and identified opportunities to collaborate on several research domains. During to the first Enlight Cancer Days, additional partnerships with other Enlight partner universities were successfully explored. Together, we look forward to collaborate on specific cancer research projects as well as on educational aspects by planning exchange of students in the context of Master and PhD programs at the partner institutes”.
From gene expression in cancer, resistance to therapies, therapeutic innovations to cancer metabolism: the congress explored a variety of topics in the cancer research academic field. It marks a first step toward the creation of an ENLIGHT Cancer Network.
This work was supported by a grant from the French government, managed by the ANR – Agence Nationale de Recherche as part of the future investment program, under reference ANR-20-GURE-0006 (Action: Grandes Universités de recherche / Project acronym: ENLIGHT), awarded as part of the APP “Université de Bordeaux – ENLIGHT Seed-funding”.
