My engagement with/interest in Open Science:
I received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of the Basque Country, Spain, in 1988 and 1992 respectively where I work since 1989. Since 2002, I head the Applied Electronics Research Group (APERT) and I am in charge of the PhD programme in Electronics and Telecommunications. I has been a visiting professor at Drexel University (Philadelphia) and project assessor on the Framework Programme of the European Union and other agencies. I have been Director of the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications (1995-2001), Deputy Director of the Bilbao School of Engineering (2001-2005), Bizkaia Campus Development Director (2005-2013), General Secretary (2013-2017) and Vice-Rector for Research (2017-2021) of the University of the Basque Country. In this last position, I had the opportunity of knowing and presenting the institutional policy of Open Access to university community. I had also a meeting in Brussels with the Policy Officer responsible of the Open Access Policy of DG RTD of the European Commission and other Vice-Rectors for research of Spanish universities, which led me to understand and defend the Open Science and Research Data Management in my own University. Since then, I am strongly committed to the principles of Open Science in general, and have a great interest promoting its principles and practices.
