ENLIGHT doctoral students’ virtual workshop on equity and sustainability at the University of Tartu

From 14 February to 18 February, University of Tartu organized an interdisciplinary proposal-writing workshop entitled “Equity and Sustainability”. The workshop took place in the framework of the ENLIGHT project and brought together 33 doctoral students from nine universities via zoom.

ENLIVE Spring edition 2022: call for participation (deadline: 11/2/2022)

ENLIVE is a virtual exchange project run by the Espace Langues, the centre for language learning and intercultural exchange at the University of Bordeaux. Guided by facilitators, participants engage in weekly synchronous discussions in English as a lingua franca context. Together, students build relationships, discuss current social issues and work towards a micro social media campaign. Students may choose from a range of areas to explore, such as gender and education, science denial and anti-science movements or disability in society.

Advanced Manufacturing Research Fellowship Programme in the Basque Country (Spain) and New Aquitaine Region (France)

Advanced Manufacturing Research Fellowship Programme in the Basque – New Aquitaine Region (ADAGIO) is a cross-border Programme aimed at enhancing the research and innovation (R&I) capacity and high-quality human resources of the regions of Euskadi (Spain) and New Aquitaine Region (France) in the selected field of Advanced Manufacturing.

The first call for the ADAGIO Cofund Fellowships Programme will open on February 1st 2021, with a view to incorporate postdoctoral talent in the area of Advanced Manufacturing, specifically in the following fields:

  • Advanced Materials & Processes
  • Intelligent, Flexible & Efficient Production Systems
  • Digital & Connected Factory
  • Energy Efficiency
  • Sustainable Manufacturing.

ADAGIO will bring together 15 experienced researchers (8 in the first call and 7 in the second call) to develop a 36 month stay through 2 open calls at international level. The fellows will decide whether to carry out a 36 month advanced research project in one of the two hosting institutions or to combine it with a more applied research path oriented towards market needs, by doing up to 12 months secondments (with a minimum of 3 months) in one or more of the industrial partner organisations associated with the programme or in another partner organisation of their own choice.

Launch of the Erasmus+ Mundus Joint Master Degree Programme in Sustainable Drug Discovery (S-DISCO). Call for applications open till February, 28!

Ghent University (Belgium), the Medical University of Gdańsk (Poland), the University of Groningen (The Netherlands) and the University of Lille (France) are proud to announce the new International Master in Sustainable Drug Discovery (S-DISCO), which was recently selected under Erasmus+. S-DISCO focuses on drug discovery, which is the creative and critically important phase in the life cycle of a medicine that precedes elaborated preclinical and clinical development.

ENLIGHT Lecture: „Climate Change: Art, Performance & Narration”, February 9, 6 pm CET

On February 9th at 6pm, the next ENLIGHT lecture will be hosted and livestreamed online. The fourth session of this semesters’ ENLIGHT lecture series explores the role art and performance can play in the fight against climate change. It also gives examples on how creative changes of the narrative on climate change can help to raise awareness on the severeness of the issue and its impact on human existence.

Uppsala University celebrates 300 years of weather observations and launches a weather photo contest in honor of Anders Celcius!

Uppsala has one of the world’s longest series of weather observations. The observations date back to 12 January 1722 by Anders Celsius and his professor Erik Burman. Every day they went outside to record the temperature, air pressure and wind direction. Over the years many different people have contributed to the data series, and on 12 January 2022 the series will become 300 years long.

The new advanced master’s programme Sustainable Food Packaging at Ghent University Campus Kortrijk prepares students to become experts in sustainable food packaging systems.

ENLIGHT Lecture "Tackling Climate Change: The Humanities Perspective", January 12, 6 pm CET

On January 12th at 6pm CET, the next ENLIGHT lecture will be hosted and livestreamed online. The third session of this semesters’ ENLIGHT lecture series provides different perspectives from humanities research on climate change.

University of Groningen is third on world list of sustainable universities

This year, the University of Groningen was ranked third place in the 2021 UI GreenMetric ranking. In 2019, the UG ranked eighth place, in 2020 in joint seventh place. Of the 956 participating universities, Wageningen University & Research was ranked as being the most sustainable, just like last year. Of the universities in the Netherlands, the University of Groningen holds second place.

University of Tartu celebrated the 102nd anniversary of Estonia's national university

1 December marks 102 years from the opening of the Estonian-language University of Tartu. Rector of the University of Tartu Toomas Asser announced the recipient of the award "Contribution to Estonian National Identity", 102 birthday candles were lit in front of the university's main building, and the Arch Bridge in Tartu turned blue in the honour of the university.
