COURSES

Bulgarian IV

This is an advanced course, following Bulgarian III. The course comprises a thorough study of the most important text types of the Bulgarian language on the basis of numerous texts, including exercises. The aim of the course is to improve the students’ reading skills and analysis of specialised texts in Bulgarian and to teach students to independently produce general and/or specialised texts, both in written and spoken form. CEFR level B2.

About the course

Content

The course consists of two parts. The first part elaborates on the grammatical and lexical knowledge of the language and provides further practice of oral skills. In the second part, a wide range of representative text types on particular subjects (literary, journalistic, scientific and everyday language use) will be read and carefully analysed. The students will give an oral presentation on a subject that is related to the themes that have been discussed.
Within the framework of ENLIGHT, a limited number of sessions (for example, 2–4 teaching weeks) will focus on ‘Subversive Voices: Women, Identity, and Resistance in East European and Baltic Literature and Culture.’ These sessions form part of the literary and cultural component, exploring women’s writing, identity, memory, and resistance. Teaching in English and the use of translated texts will facilitate participation by ENLIGHT students, without detracting from the core competencies of Bulgarian IV.
